It's tough to figure all of the reasons this site has come down to a trickle of comments.  What was once a dramatic insight and opinion laden forum into the foodservice industry has been leveled into an afterthought of no thoughts.

Has the paranoid techno micro managing powers that be have the minions silenced?  Damn shame.  This industry grew and progressed due to the independent and creative nature that brought innovative and customer based solutions to the market.

It's been good while it lasted.

True story. I think it was dutifully maintained for a good while, but it went down several times and came up in different facades, so people dwindled away.

I hope this site doesn't disappear. It's the one place where we can all talk freely about our companies without management knowing our true feelings.

Broadliner,
Worry not, Foodservice Rumors shall rise again.  The endless struggle of master versus minions continues.  I think sysco is working hard to buy our smaller regional company, for instance.  We all need to be ready to jump ship to another company or another industry at any time.  There is no security or loyalty in any size distributor.
That said, it still is fun.

Fun...???  Fun left this industry in 1999....   Lets all just face reality...  selling groceries is coming close to stocking them on shelves...  Soon they will have all the reps wearing aprons that say " I'm here to help"

So any scoop for foodservice in Cincinnati Ohio?  Just getting back on to this site and like some of the others posters said, I hope this site stays alive!  Broker updates, rumors?

misterfood, it looks like USF and Sysco are trying to buy their way back to prosperity. USF just bought Dierks Waukesha in Wisconsin. I've seen that if you wave enough money in front of people, they will jump. The fun left a long time ago. Now it's just a job.

I think the format is outdated and we're all so busy! I do like to read every once in a while! I love the forum as a concept. Is there a more user friendly modern platform it could be transferred to?

I kind of agree with Mr Food. Sales, as we know it, is changing fast. It's not just sales, but all non-specialized jobs are disappearing. If you don't have a specific skill or area of expertise, America no longer sees your value, as an employee. The wealth gap is getting bigger every day and middle class people are becoming fewer, while the poor are getting poorer and greater in number. This is the beginning of the end.

I preferred the more free-flowing comment section of a few years ago.  Just not a big fan of the new format.  Doesn't mean I don't get on here from time-to-time to check in.  Just my opinion.

As for the industry, well the 2 largest companies seem to be driving the bus...right over the cliff.
Maybe when they realize the word "service" appears in "foodservice" for a reason, they will change.  However, I don't foresee that anytime soon.  Too many retailers and auto-parts executives running the show these days.  Too many people in charge that think you can run a food company, launch new items and do marketing promotions based on pivot tables and V-lookup commands on their spreadsheets.

Maybe, just maybe, if some pressure comes to bare to put actual foodservice people in charge of USF and Sysco, then the tide will turn.  If not, then you can only expect it to get worse.

It's amazing a company that already carries a $5 billion debt load is allowed to add to that debt by purchasing another distributor with borrowed funds. It reminds me of the way cancer spreads through a persons body.

So now the government should control/stop any merger they feel is appropriate..... based on.... any thing they feel like.....???  In your "perfect communist world" would the person making this decision be an elected official or just a bureaucrat?

Man this is AMERICA... wake up, communist... and smell the coffee....  Its morning in America again!!
