Mr. Floyd Maines the father and creator of Maine's Paper and Foods would be devastated if he saw what his sons did to this powerhouse. They should of sold it 5 or 6 years ago when they had the chance at a fair price and could have saved the workforce and local economy from this Trainwreck the sons have created. Second generation family businesses have a terrible success record and this is no different.

I worked at Maines for years. The most hackneyed phrase thrown around was "Whose name is on the side of the building?" That question was supposed to cow you into subservience.

I always wanted to retort "Who helped PUT that name up there?" I can tell you from the many 60-hr work weeks and months being away from home as they expanded that they certainly didn't do it themselves.

I guess the new phrase is "Whose name is on the lawsuit?" [biggrin]

I doubt any competitor needs more trucks or warehouses.

BK, darden, wendys can switch distributors like socks.

Maines had more potential and resources to dominate in the broadline side than US - Sysco - PFG or other independents but was so arrogant regarding it's obession with white table and golf courses and obscure market segments and would stick it's nose up at any type of operator that wasn't that market segment mentioned above. They had the product lines the infastructure everything needed to dominate. Instead was worried about seasonal golf courses and food pincher business. Biggest waste of an opportunity I've ever seen in the food service industry. A few arrogant pompous members of management sunk that ship.
