I’ve had conversations with a couple of manufacturer reps over the last two weeks and they have shared some concerning news about the future markets. The trend will be low inventories, higher prices and longer lead times. They both told me, the raw supply chain has plenty of walking stock, a word they used. The red meat market will be flush with product in 90 days but the pork supply will take a hit. Now all this is pure speculation but they both told me, the plants are having a hard time containing the COVID outbreaks and will most likely close periodically to evaluate where they stand. So, in a nutshell, be prepared for erratic swings to continue. Some of this I do not believe but some did make sense. The entire fresh protein market is controlled by a select few. They hold the cards and control the game!! We just have to deal with it! Been doing this a long time and I see some distributors making some tough decisions going forward on inventories that will out customers in a tough place in the future! Pray for the industry to stay strong!!

It’s nice to see relatively normal fresh protein prices this week but the real downfall is the processed protein items that trail the market by up to a month, those are by far my biggest issue right now.
