Union. Teamsters. Right now from what I hear, they are not hiring any drivers due to lost sales. However call them. My advise, stay away. It's a stinking RAT ship.

Justcurious123.  If by "ABC" you mean regional zoning rates for drivers based on distances from warehouse, I believe that is more of a New England / Northeast thing due to the overpopulation and congestion of that region. I may be wrong. Check with your local Teamster rep. They should be able to get info on fellow Teamster house pay structures. Good luck.

ABC stands for "Activity Based Compensation." Basically it's getting paid by cases/stops/miles rather than hourly.  It's usually set up by zone, so that drivers who have more drive time and less stops will get a higher rate per mile.

Thanks OPSVET.  That is pretty much how it worked for us as well. Did not realize it was an actual acronym. The ABC for us in New England stood for the three zones... (A Zone) 0 miles to 25 miles, (B Zone) 26 miles to 50 miles and (C Zone) was anything outside of 51 miles. I don't imagine it works quite that way out west with greater distance between cities.

The folks that have joined Walnut from U.S. Foods have mentioned to me that U.S. Foods vision is to have a team of salaried sales personnel making say $50,000 per year each. (sounds like they will be "order takers" to me for that price)

Truth,

I heard the same thing about Sysco. Maybe we should talk to Roma once PFG fills in the holes in their inventory.

CheshireCat, With the mix of resident drivers and drivers on overnight routes, "ABC" can work any number of ways.  Some DC's calculate the round trip miles from the domicile point, with zones usually set up in 100 mile increments.  Some use layovers as "clickups" on mileage rate.  Either way, with Roadnet able to calculate the expected mileage of the route, and whatever the on-board computer (XATA, CADEC, etc) they use to monitor the actual miles, the drivers are kept in a pretty tight box.

Thanks OpsVet. Nice to hear an Operations point of view here. Most of us don't understand or care to find out the workings of your world. Keep up the good work.
