Okay - I have a stupid question. I have a few accounts that I share with US foods. In these three accounts they are fighting tooth and nail to try to get me out of there and control all the business (Which is never going to happen because these particular operators are always going to buy from more than one distributor). I appreciate what they are trying to do, because obviously it is our job as sales reps to grow and gain market share. What I don’t understand is how they are going about it, and how willing they are to completely drop their pants on price in order to control business. In these aforementioned accounts, the rep is literally going $5 to $10 under cost on things like Lamb Weston French Fries!?!? And I am talking below the deviation they already get from Lamb. This kind of thing is just stupid and is truly ruining things for all reps everywhere. Why is this happening and is anyone else out there running into this ?

Thanks Dino for the explanation !! The company I work for is old school, so I still get paid per drop. How do you find this plan versus getting paid per drop ?

Dino, I retired just before the new pay plan went into effect. Is anybody making the same or better money than when they were on commission? Are any expenses still covered even though tax write-offs are gone? Thanks!

You answered you’re own question, it’s happening in an attempt to take you out. They’re showing the owner that they can give him/her the best price. Sounds to me like the owner knows how to play the game, keep two companies and let them battle it out on who can give the best price. You can always decide to not chase your own tail and refuse to play the pricing game.

The only one who wins this game is the customer. Both you and the USF rep will be cutting your GP%, GP$ and commission. Are you willing to work for nothing?
